    The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL) within the
    Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition (School of Health and
    Rehabilitation Sciences) and Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the
    University of Pittsburgh is accepting applications from candidates
    interested in obtaining either a post-doctoral fellowship or visiting
    scholar position in Sports Medicine. The positions will focus on
    research related to preventing orthopedic injury and performance
    enhancement in athletes, physically active populations, and military
    operators. Responsibilities will include laboratory coordination,
    assistance with new and ongoing NMRL research initiatives, initiation of
    independent research projects that complement the current NMRL research
    agenda, collaboration with the faculty, physicians, and doctoral
    students in Sports Medicine, and obtaining funding.

    The fellows and scholars are provided with extensive
    research experience in both the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory housed
    within the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Center for Sports
    Medicine as well as off campus laboratories in our two Department of
    Defense funded military based laboratories. The research within the NMRL
    focuses on issues central to applied and clinical orthopedics and sports
    medicine. Research includes the use of motion analysis (video and
    electromagnetics) electromyography, isokinetic dynamometry,
    proprioceptive and balance assessment modalities, and metabolic and
    physiological assessment techniques for the purpose of injury
    prevention, restoring function after injury, and performance
    enhancement.



    Successful candidates should have:

    1. Completed their doctoral degree (for the
    post-doctoral fellowships) or their Masters (for the visiting scholar
    position) in an appropriate field of study

    (sports medicine, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, exercise
    physiology, rehabilitation science, etc)

    2. Demonstrated experience and desire in conducting
    applied and clinical research consistent with the mission of the
    Neuromuscular Research Laboratory

    3. Strong oral and written communication skills

    4. Competency in the use instrumentation for human
    movement analysis.

    5. Strong computers skills including software
    programming for human movement analysis



    Post-doctoral fellows and visiting scholars will be provided with a
    salary that is commensurate with experience (12 month appointment with
    the option to renew), faculty status within the School of Health and
    Rehabilitation Science, and all faculty benefits including health
    insurance, retirement benefits, and tuition discounts for both self and
    family.
