Postdoc Research Fellow – position available

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellowship
(clinically-orientated neuromuscular research, lower extremities) at the
Neuromuscular Research Laboratory, Schulthess Clinic, Zurich, Switzerland (
    http://www.schulthess-clinic.ch
    ).

The Schulthess Clinic is recognised as one of the world's leading
orthopaedic hospitals, with an active research department that we are
currently seeking to expand. The principal activity of the Neuromuscular
Research Laboratory is the evaluation of neuromuscular function in
orthopaedic patients (e.g., hip and knee arthroplasty) and in sportsmen,
with special emphasis on the plasticity of neural and muscular structures in
relation to disuse, immobilisation, rehabilitation and physical training.

The job entails developing, directing, supervising and participating in all
the research activities of the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory. The Fellow
will serve as a collaborator and mentor for the clinical staff and residents
of the lower extremity department, and will advise on the design, data
analysis and publication of all research work conducted within the
    department.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in medical/human sciences (or a
closely-related discipline) by the end of 2007. Qualifications include
leadership experience in the field of human experimental research and some
experience with questionnaire-based outcome research. The applicant's
research skills will be demonstrated through his/her publications in quality
peer-reviewed journals, participation at international conferences,
membership of accredited international research societies and track record
for attracting external research funding. The ideal personal characteristics
for the job include excellent interpersonal communication skills, a
well-developed ability to work independently, creativity with respect to
idea-generation, and enthusiasm to encourage a small team of other research
fellows, research assistants, surgeons and physicians within the departmentExcellent written and spoken English is essential.

The position is available, in the first instance, for a three-year period
(commencing as soon as possible). Salary will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience, and in accordance with the scales set by the
    National Science Foundation.

To submit applications, please provide a curriculum vitae (including list of
publications) and a letter of application. Informal enquiries can be made
(via e-mail only) to Dr Nicola Maffiuletti: nicola.maffiuletti@kws.ch
