    Postdoctoral Fellowship available:

Research title: Mechanical vulnerability of cartilage-bone tissues in
    the pre-osteoarthritic joint

A two-year postdoctoral position is available in the area of
cartilage-bone biomechanics and osteoarthritis research. The research
is aimed at investigating microstructural and ultrastructural changes
associated with early degeneration of the joint tissues and
understanding how these changes influence their mechanical vulnerability.

The project is experimentally based and the successful appointee will
join an active research team with a special focus on early structural
and mechanical changes associated with cartilage/ bone degeneration.
    The research will involve
    (a) a detailed structural analysis of the cartilage/bone tissues using
both DIC light microscopic and ultrastructural techniques,
    (b) micromechanical manipulations, and
    (c) structural/mechanical interpretation.

The ideal candidate will have a relevant background in
bioengineering/biology, but more importantly, a particular interest in
joint tissue research. Fellows must hold a doctoral degree of not more
than 4 years standing at the time of application.

The research will be conducted in the Biomaterials Research Laboratory
which is part of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering,
University of Auckland, under the direction of Associate Professor Neil
    Broom.

    Salary:
    Year 1 (NZ$60,349); year 2 (NZ$62,307) together with a relocation
    allowance of NZ$2000.

The closing date for applications is Monday 2 April 2007 and interested
persons should email a CV and contact details of potential referees to:-
