Spine Biomechanics Laboratory Director Position
The Department of Neurosurgery, College of Medicine, University of South Florida is seeking a Director for its Spine Biomechanics Laboratory.
This is a 12 month position with excellent benefits. Academic rank is contingent upon the candidate's experience.
The successful candidate will direct operation of the laboratory and be expected to help secure extramural funding. The Department of Neurosurgery Spine Division has a number of surgeons whose practice is limited to spine. The Spine Biomechanics Laboratory was established in 2003 to provide biomechanical testing capability for the Department of Neurosurgery. Major projects have been successfully completed for both large and small commercial organizations including Medtronic Sofamor Danek, Synthes Spine, Pegasus Biologics, Blackstone Medical Inc., Life Link Foundation, Regeneration Technologies, and Spineology Inc. Laboratory facilities include a testing machine (MTS Systems, 858 Mini Bionix), a custom 3 degree of freedom spine testing fixture, soft tissue testing fixtures, and a digital x-ray unit (Faxitron MX-20). Computed Tomography, MRI, and DEXA equipment are easily available.
The successful candidate will have an earned PhD in an appropriate engineering discipline including mechanical engineering or biomedical engineering. Prior experience in spine technology and testing is preferred. Experience with testing machines, fixture design, data analysis, and statistics is essential.
