  • In vivo load measurements in TKR at Charité,Berlin

    Dear Biomech-L list members

On March 14, 2007 the first instrumented tibial tray developed by the
Biomechanics Laboratory of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus
Benjamin Franklin, Berlin, Germany (Head: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Georg Bergmann) was
implanted successfully in a 63 years old male patient.

First in vivo measurements were taken one week postoperatively during
physiotherapy, level walking and stair climbing.

Results of this research will help to improve knee surgery and
implant designs. Additionally they will further advance physiotherapy
and rehabilitation of knee patients. Implantations of up to ten
    instrumented knee endoprostheses are planned.

For more information and to see the first results, please go to

    Regards,
    Bernd
