  • Postdoctoral fellow position - Washington University in St Louis

Postdoctoral fellow, Washington University, Saint Louis, Missouri

    Position: Postdoctoral fellow

    Organization: Washington University

    Location: Saint Louis, Missouri

A postdoctoral position with a strong emphasis on tendon and
tendon-to-bone tissue engineering is available. The successful candidate
will work with a multi-disciplinary group of biomedical engineers,
orthopaedic surgeons, and molecular biologists. The candidate will study
the role of growth factors in tendon and tendon-to-bone healing using
two animal models. A novel delivery system will be used to provide
sustained delivery of a number of growth factors to healing tendons.
Outcome measures will include biomechanical properties (including
measurement of viscoelastic properties), localized gene expression,
localized protein, collagen orientation, bone density, and bone
architecture. The candidate will join the Orthopaedic Biomechanics
Laboratory, which is part of the Musculoskeletal Research Center
    ( This center
specializes in injury, repair, and disease of tendon, bone, and
cartilage. The major aim of the center is to perform translational
research to improve clinical outcomes for musculoskeletal conditions.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Priority deadline
for applications is May 15, 2007; however, applications will be reviewed
    until suitable candidate is identified.

Qualifications for the position include a Ph.D. and strong experimental
background in tendon/ligament healing and biomechanics (or related
area). Strong communication skills are required. Experience with Matlab,
animal models, RT-PCR, in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemistry
is not required but would be beneficial. The project is supported by
multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health. Washington
University is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
