There is a 3 year PhD studentship available for an EU (non UK) student to study the process of cement injection into bone. The process (percutaneous vertebroplasty) is gaining wide popularity in the treatment of osteoporotic fractures within the spine, however there are a number of unanswered questions that relate to the flow of the cement. This includes the properties of the bone, the cement and the injection process. The successful student will primarily focus on laboratory experimentation but the work will also tie in to an existing computational programme. This is an exciting opportunity to make a contribution to this field!
