  • Research studentship - rehabilitation of stroke patients

UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD, UK, DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING SCIENCE
Research Studentship in measurements of movement and activity in the
    rehabilitation of stroke patients

The department seeks to recruit a research student to work on the
interpretation of data from sensors such as accelerometers to measure
activity patterns and movement in stroke patients undergoing
rehabilitation. The work will form part of a body of research,
supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research
Council (EPSRC), to investigate devices and methodologies to encourage
patients to get maximum benefit from physiotherapy through interactive
and adaptive techniques. This studentship is a component in a bigger
project which includes physiotherapists, computer games and interface
researchers at the Universities of Nottingham, Sheffield Hallam,
    Southampton, Sussex and Dundee.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate an interest and ability in
areas such as signal processing or electronic instrumentation, and have
experience in a computing language such as C or Matlab. A good first
degree (2.1 or above) in electronics engineering, physics or computer
science is desirable. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate an
interest in working in a multidisciplinary team and with people
    undergoing rehabilitation treatment.

Remuneration will be £12,600 p.a. in 2006/7 for UK and certain EU
nationals (and will increase in subsequent years), with all fees paid.

Candidates are expected to meet the criteria for Graduate Admissions
and must make a graduate application at the same time as applying for
    this studentship.
