    The School of Safety Science at UNSW in
    collaboration with industry partners is
    undertaking research on the performance of pedal
    and motor cycle helmets. The project will
    involve accident investigation, computer
    modelling of impacts and helmet testing. The
    project is funded through the ARC Linkage scheme
    with the following industry partners: NSW RTA,
    TAC Victoria, ATSB, NRMA, ACT-NRMA Road Safety
    Trust and DVE International. The appointee’s
    duties will include biomechanics research on the
    topic of pedal and motor cycle helmet performance
    as per ARC LP 0669480; support for the research
    of the chief investigators and linkage partners;
    development and execution of research plans and
    experimental protocols in collaboration with
    investigators; collection and analysis of
    appropriate research data in the field of
    biomechanics; contribution to project management
    under the supervision of the project director;
    contribution to scholarship within the School,
    including support for APAI students, teaching and
    learning; and, preparation and/or assistance in
    the preparation of research reports and publications.

    To succeed in this role, you must have a
    doctorate in a relevant area, eg.
    engineering/biomedical engineering, or
    Bachelor/Master’s degree in a relevant
    discipline, eg. engineering, combined with
    relevant industry research experience; excellent
    communication skills - oral and written;
    experience and knowledge of research methods in
    biomechanics applied to the study of impact
    injury; demonstrated ability to work in a
    research team; demonstrated record of
    publication; and, knowledge of EEO and AA policy;

    Salary range for Research Associate is $62,347 –
    $66,686 per year (plus 17% employer superannuation plus leave loading)

    This is a fixed-term appointment for two years
    with a possible extension for one year depending
    on the availability of funding.
