  • PhD studentship at Liverpool

PhD studentships / Demonstratorships in Anatomy at the University of
    Liverpool, UK.

    Period: Sept 2007-Sept 2010

Applications are invited from graduates, or those who expect to graduate,
with a First Class Honours, or good Upper Second Class Honours Degree in an
appropriate subject for the 3-year postgraduate studentships listed below
The stipend will be at Research Council rates (currently 12,600pa),
additional payment for demonstrating will be available and home/EU tuition
    fees will be paid.

We are seeking to recruit two graduates in anatomy or closely related
discipline. The successful candidates will undertake PhD projects in the
Division of Human Anatomy and Cell Biology (HACB) and in addition, will be
expected to demonstrate up to six hours per week during term time. The
studentships can be held in any of the research groups within the Division
of HACB, please see http://www.liv.ac.uk/hacb or email jag1@liv.ac.uk for
details, but we would be particularly interested in applicants who are
    interested in the following project:

The comparative functional morphology of the human and ape locomotor system
under the supervision of Drs, Evie Vereecke and Michael Gunther. The
specific programme of research will be designed in consultation with the
successful candidate. The project will be part of other related research -
such as the evolution of habitual bipedalism - in the Primate Evolution and
Morphology Group (http://www.liv.ac.uk/premog/). The candidate should be
able to collect, analyse, and interpret anatomical and behavioural data,
have good communication skills and the ability to work independently. We
offer a stimulating and internationally-renown research environment with
state-of-the-art facilities. As part of the studentship, research visits to
our collaborators nationally and internationally will yield a unique
insight into the functional interpretation of morphology.

The studentship is available from September 2007 and applicants should
register their interest as soon as possible by e-mailing a cover letter and
an up-to-date curriculum vitae to Dr Vereecke
(Evie.Vereecke@liverpool.ac.uk) or sending it to Department of Human
Anatomy and Cell Biology, School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of
Liverpool, Sherrington Buildings, Ashton Street, L69 3GE Liverpool, UK.
