*PhD Studentship in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering in
Orthopaedics at the University of Edinburgh, UK

The Orthopaedic Engineering research group was formed at the University
of Edinburgh through a strong link between engineering and medicine
(see: www.see.ed.ac.uk/orthopaedics). The group has attracted
substantial funding from research councils and industry. Two new PhD
students are starting 2007 and the group has one remaining PhD
studentship available to conduct multidisciplinary cutting edge research
in the field of biomechanics and biomedical engineering as applied to
orthopaedics. The work done by the group has attracted considerable
attention including the 2007 award of the best medical engineering PhD
from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK.

Successful applicant will work under the joint supervision of
engineering academics and orthopaedic surgeons. The research is likely
to involve both experimental and numerical techniques. To enhance
knowledge and skills base in this multidisciplinary area appropriate
taught courses will be provided to the successful applicants.

Applicants should have a good first degree in
Civil/Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering or Physics with at least a 2:1.
Only applicants from the UK/EU are eligible and successful candidates
will have a tax free allowance of approximately GBP13,000 per annum plus
    tuition fees.

Details of possible research areas can be found at:
    http://www.see.ed.ac.uk/IIE/postgrad/pankajjuly07.pdf

The group is keen to finalise the award of this remaining studentship
and interested applicants should contact the undersigned at the earliest.
