PhD Studentship in Surgical Instrumentation/Biomechanics

By the beginning of autumn 2007 a new PhD Student position will be
available at the Institute for Surgical Technology and Biomechanics
in the area of biomechanics of the human spine.
The general aim of this PhD-project is to design and develop
intelligent, active mechatronic devices for intra-operative usage
during spinal interventions e.g. for the in-vivo quantification of
spinal instability in humans. The project requires primarily a
mechanics background as well as experiences in robotics. Furthermore,
a significant knowledge in computer science in combination with a
strong motivation to work in a multidisciplinary field and a fluent
English language are mandatory.
Dr. Jens Kowal from the Institute for Surgical Technology and
Biomechanics in collaboration with Dr. med. Daniel Haschtmann from
the Salemspital in Bern will supervise the project.
