Tenure Track Faculty Position (Assistant Professor) in Biomechanics
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the 'Ecole Polytechnique'
(Affiliated Engineering School of the University of Montreal) invites
applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the primary
area of Biomechanics (of musculoskeletal system), with complementary
expertise in one or more of the following areas: orthopedic biomechanics,
experimental biomechanics, design and manufacturing of biomedical devices,
computer assisted surgery, minimal invasive technologies, biomechanical
modeling, CAD/CAM/PLM.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related
discipline. A strong interest in teaching both undergraduate and graduate
students and a demonstrated commitment to research is required. Successful
candidates must demonstrate an ability to develop a first-rate research
program, be capable of obtaining competitive external research funding, and
actively participate in and be committed to outstanding teaching at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels.
The duties of the successful candidate will include teaching in his/her area
of specialization, as well as in the general mechanical engineering program.
The successful candidate is expected to develop an active, independent,
externally funded research program and to be eligible for P. Eng.
registration in the Province of Quebec. The successful candidate is expected
to actively participate into the musculo-skelettal priority research group
of the Research Center of Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center and
collaborate with a new research Chair in spine biomechanics. The expected
candidate is expected to have excellent communication skills in French and
English. The expected candidate is expected to be able to teach in French.

Excellent facilities exist in the Department and at Sainte-Justine Hospital
Research Center to support research in the area of biomechanics. The
Department also has active research programs and infrastructure in
aeronautics/aerospace, materials, fabrication, fluid mechanics, advanced
design and applied mechanics. All areas involve computational research
programs. Excellent opportunities also exist for cooperative research with
other disciplines and colleges across campus, especially the Faculty of
medicine and the university hospitals. In particular, there is a long term
history of successful research collaborations with Sainte-Justine University
Hospital Center, the leading paediatric university hospital in Canada and in
the French international community.
The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment
is subject to final approval by the Natural Sciences and Engineering
Research Council of Canada.
