PhD and Postdoctoral positions at the Neural Control of Movement Laboratory, Arizona State University

PhD and postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the Neural Control of Movement (NCM) Laboratory at Arizona State University directed by Dr. Marco Santello. These positions are funded by a 5-year NIH R01 grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Disorders, with a focus on the coordination of hand muscle activity during force production and grasping tasks. The goal of these studies is to understand how the CNS controls complex movements, by examining neural mechanisms that underlie synergistic control of multiple hand muscles.

The NCM Laboratory is devoted to the study of sensorimotor processes associated with the control of the hand for grasping and manipulation. The laboratory utilizes experimental approaches including kinematics, kinetics, surface and intramuscular (single and multi-unit) electromyography, electrotactile stimulation and virtual reality environments. The NCM Laboratory has several research collaborations at ASU as well as with other universities and opportunities to be involved in these projects are also available. For additional information on current projects in the NCM Laboratory and collaborative work with other research groups please visit: www.asu.edu/clas/kines/NCMlab http://www.asu.edu/clas/kines/NCMlab

    PhD FELLOWSHIPS (2)
Arizona State University's doctoral program in kinesiology has been ranked in the top 10 U.S. research universities based on the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. The Graduate Program in Kinesiology is highly interdisciplinary and offers students the opportunity to interact with faculty within the Department of Kinesiology, as well as from other graduate programs on campus such as Neuroscience, Bioengineering, Psychology and Life Sciences. PhD fellowships will be determined following NIH standards. For more information please go to: www.asu.edu/clas/kines (click on "Graduate" for application requirements).

    POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP (1)
To qualify you must have a Ph.D., M.D. or an M.D./PhD with a background in neuroscience, kinesiology, biomechanics, biomedical engineering or a related field. The appointment is for a minimum of 2 years and renewable on a year-to-year basis. Salary will be determined following NIH standards.

    Contact Information
Interested candidates should e-mail CV, research interest, and names and contact information of 3 references to Dr. Marco Santello (marco.santello@asu.edu). Positions are open now and applications will continue to be reviewed until positions are filled.
