    Assistant Professor - Kinesiology
    University of North Texas--Denton, Texas

    Rank and Salary:

    Assistant Professor. The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion,
    and Recreation is recruiting a highly motivated individual who will
    bring strengths in research and teaching to support the department’s
    research initiative in physical activity and health. The individual
    selected will serve a nine-month, tenure track appointment beginning
    fall semester 2008. An offer of employment is contingent on a
    satisfactory criminal history background check. Salary is competitive
    and commensurate with experience and background. Summer employment is
    contingent on student demand and funding.

    Qualifications:

    Doctorate in kinesiology or closely related field. ABD considered.
    Preference will be given to candidates who can teach a variety of
    exercise physiology courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. An
    ability to teach biomechanics is also desirable. Candidate must
    demonstrate evidence of effective college teaching. ACSM or other
    professional certifications are desirable but not required.

    Responsibilities:

    Primary responsibilities include, but are not be limited to, the
    following: (1) Producing a focused line of research leading to
    publications in refereed journals; (2) Demonstrating a willingness to
    work with faculty members towards extramural funding in physical
    activity and health; (3) Teaching courses in exercise physiology
    and/or
    biomechanics; (4) Directing master’s theses and research projects;
    and
    (5) Serving on department, college, university-wide committees, and
    providing professional service.

    The Exercise Science Laboratories:

    The laboratories are equipped with a MedGraphics Ultima metabolic cart
    for measurement of oxygen uptake, pulmonary function, and cardiac
    output; a Welch Allyn CardioPerfect work station for automated EKG and
    blood pressure; a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer; a Biodex stability
    system; a force platform; a Quinton research treadmill; a Lode
    Excalibur
    Sport 0 to 2500 W programmable cycle ergometer equipped with force
    transducers; an upper body ergometer; an underwater weighing tank;
    various other ergometers; and basic resistance exercise equipment.
    There
    are dedicated lactate analyzers, an ultra-low freezer, a refrigerator,
    a
    refrigerated centrifuge, and a UV-vis spectrophotometer. In addition
    to
    the resources within the Department, there are over 6 million
    residents
    in the Denton-Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex providing numerous
    opportunities for collaborative research efforts (e.g., sports teams,
    hospitals, school districts, rehabilitation centers).
