  • Elephant biomechanics postdoc open

Hi, an advert for a short-term postdoc with me, with good prospects for
future positions in the lab afterwards, note deadline of this week(!):

    The Royal Veterinary College
    University of London

    Postdoctoral Researcher

Applications are invited for a 9 month position for an enthusiastic
biomechanist to work on a BBSRC-funded Animal Sciences grant to study how
muscle, bone, and tendon strength influence speed and gait in elephants. The
chief role of the researcher is to use experimentally-measured kinetics and
kinematics (inverse dynamics) to construct and validate 3D musculoskeletal
computer simulations that test how tissue strengths constrain speed/gait.
People from an engineering background are encouraged to apply.

Some relevant experience is desirable; expertise in researching either
inverse dynamics of locomotion or computer simulation of musculoskeletal
mechanics is essential. The post is based in the world class Structure and
Motion Laboratory at our Hawkshead Campus near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.
The post is to replace the current postdoc, who is beginning a Lecturership
in London but will continue actively collaborating on the project.

Salary will be approximately £28,000 per annum.

To make informal enquiries about the post, please contact Dr. John
    Hutchinson on +44 (0)1707 666 313 (mobile +44 (0)7843 629 162) or email him

Please request an application form by emailing Dr. Hutchinson or Human
Resources: ACARecruitment@rvc.ac.uk or phone/mail Human Resources, The Royal
Veterinary College, Hawkshead Lane, North Mymms, Hatfield, Herts AL9 7TA,
telephone 01707 666042. Completed applications should be returned to Human
    Resources or sent to ACARecruitment@rvc.ac.uk.

Closing date for applications: Friday 12th October 2007
Anticipated interview date: Wednesday 17th October 2007
Desired start date: ASAP (~1st November 2007)
