  • Tenure Track Positions at Southern Illinois University

    The Department of Kinesiology within the College of Education and Human Services currently has two position openings for tenure/tenure track faculty in the areas of Pedagogy and Pedagogy/Motor Behavior beginning in Fall 2008. Requirements and duties of each position are listed below.
    Position 1: Assistant/Associate Professor ­ Pedagogy/Physical Education Teacher Education
    Description of Position
    This position is an Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology with a specialization in the area of Pedagogy. The individual will serve as Program Coordinator of the Physical Education Teacher Education program and fulfill a key role in a growing undergraduate program in Teacher Education. The position is a tenure track position with diverse undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities.
    Requirements of Applicant
    * This position requires an earned doctorate in Physical Education/Kinesiology or an area relevant to the duties described.
    * Applicants who have completed all requirements except the dissertation will be considered. If official evidence of completion of all requirements for the doctorate is not received by August 15, 2008, the position offered will be a term, nine-month appointment with the rank of Instructor at a lower salary than that of an Assistant Professor.
    * The rank of Assistant Professor requires the potential for scholarly productivity through research publications in nationally refereed journals.
    * The rank of Associate Professor requires substantial evidence supporting excellence in teaching, research productivity with publications in nationally refereed journals, and professional service activities.
    * Knowledge of NCATE/NASPE accreditation.
    * Experience, interest and/or potential for external funding is preferred.
    * Oral proficiency in the English language is required by Illinois state law.
    Responsibilities of the Position
    Primary responsibilities include:
    * Serve as Program Coordinator for the Physical Education Teacher Education program.
    * Provide leadership in the department’s teacher education program, including serving as the liaison between the department and College of Education and Human Services, seeing that the program meets state, national, and professional guidelines, and integrating technology into the teacher education curriculum.
    * Teach methods classes in the teacher education program, including elementary, secondary, and special populations, as well as other classes based on expertise or need.
    * Provide leadership for cooperative work (partnerships, grant development, applied projects, and research) within the college, university and community.
    * Develop and/or teach graduate class(es) in areas of expertise.
    * Engage in service activities at the department, college, university, and community levels.
    * Pursue a continuing line of research activities leading to scholarly publications in nationally refereed journals and seek external funding.

    August 16, 2008

The individual will fulfill a key role in growing undergraduate programs in Teacher Education and Exercise Science and contribute in the graduate program. The position is a tenure track position with diverse undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities.
    Requirements of Applicant
    * The rank of Assistant Professor requires the doctorate in Physical Education/Kinesiology or an area relevant to the duties described.
