The University of Hartford Department of Physical Therapy in the
College of Education, Nursing, and Health Professions seeks an
Assistant Professor in Physical Therapy. This is a 10-month, tenure-
track position, with primary specialization in motor control/motor
learning. Preferred secondary areas of interest include
neurorehabilitation, statistics, biomechanics, or exercise
physiology. Start date is August 2008. Qualifications include
completion of an academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, ScD) by
date of hire and expertise in motor control and motor learning. Other
preferred qualities include demonstration of success in working with
diverse populations of students and clients, previous teaching
experience, publications in appropriate journals, and capability of
establishing a research agenda with potential to attract external
funding. Job responsibilities will include teaching motor control,
motor learning and research methodology, mentoring student research,
engaging in independent scholarly activity, collaborating with
current faculty in physical therapy and biomedical engineering,
student advising, professional service, and curriculum development.
The University of Hartford Physical Therapy Department has
implemented a DPT degree program with both freshman and post-
baccalaureate entry into the curriculum.
Co-teaching and collaborative research are common expectations for
members of the faculty. Available for use are three research
laboratories containing an un-weighting treadmill gait system, a
pressure mapping system, and a real-time data acquisition and
analysis system that provides monitoring of 3D motion analysis
(passive video and real-time active marker), 8 channels of EMG, and
force platforms, with simultaneous control of external signaling
(e.g., sound, light) to permit feedback experimentation on human
posture, balance, gait and other activities. Applicants who are not
physical therapists will be considered. Salary will be commensurate
with experience.
