    THE POSITION:
    The Chair of Exercise and Sport Science serves as the administrator for the
    Department of Exercise and Sport Science and engages in research/scholarly
    activity, teaching, and professional service. The Chair reports directly to
    the Dean of the College of Health and Human Performance. This is a
    nine-month position that begins August 18, 2008.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Earned doctorate in Exercise and Sport Science or related field. Record of
    scholarship and teaching effectiveness commensurate with tenure at the rank
    of Associate or Full Professor and appointment to the University Graduate
    Faculty. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, administrative
    effectiveness, and ability to interact effectively with faculty,
    administrators, students and the community. Understanding of a department
    with a wide range of academic and research programs.

    Exercise and Sport Science is comprised of 45 part- and full-time faculty
    members, with 23 tenured and tenure-track and 22 fixed-term faculty. There
    are approximately 970 intended and declared undergraduate majors within five
    degree programs: exercise and sport science, exercise physiology, health
    fitness specialist, physical education, and sport studies. The Department¹s
    graduate program, encompassing 100 students, offers an MS with six
    concentrations: adapted physical education, biomechanics, exercise
    physiology, physical activity promotion, physical education pedagogy, and
    sport management and an interdisciplinary PhD in bioenergetics/ exercise
    physiology. The Department also offers an MAEd in physical education in
    conjunction with the College of Education. EXSS is one of the university¹s
    most productive departments in terms of research and external funding.

    The College of Health and Human Performance is home to three departments:
    Exercise and Sport Science, Health Education and Promotion, and

    Recreation and Leisure Studies, as well as, the Human Performance
    Laboratory. There are approximately 100 faculty members in the College,
    with excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations within the
    College and with other units on campus.

    SALARY:

    Salary is competitive and commensurate with professional background and
    experience.
