Motor Learning/Control
Assistant Professor
Applications are invited for a tenure-track appointment commencing July 1,
2008. The College of Kinesiology offers a four-year Bachelor of Science
degree in Kinesiology (B.Sc. Kin. and B.Sc. Kin. - Hon.) as well as graduate
programs at the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels. Current enrolment consists of
approximately 500 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students. The
College is committed to the scholarship of discovering, preserving,
teaching, and applying knowledge as it pertains to human movement, active
living and healthy lifestyles. This is enhanced by a new state-of-the-art
$33 million Kinesiology building, which provides an environment for faculty
that is conducive to the development of high-quality research programs and
delivery of excellent graduate and undergraduate student instruction. The
University of Saskatchewan is unique in Canada in that the University houses
all of the health science colleges, providing opportunities for
collaborative endeavors.
The central focus of research by faculty in the College is that of physical
activity and health with particular emphasis in (1) community-based research
and behaviour change and (2) physical growth and development across the
lifespan; and (3) the relationship between physical activity and skeletal
health. The College has a history of interdisciplinary research as evidenced
by inter-college, inter-university and international collaboration and
multidisciplinary tri-council funding success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates must have a Ph.D. on or before the appointment date;
- Expertise in motor learning, motor development or motor control in typical
populations throughout the lifespan and/or populations with movement
disorders;
- Proven research abilities;
- Demonstrated commitment to the teacher-scholar model;
- Publications in peer reviewed journals, and/or presentation of research
findings at scientific conferences;
- Post-doctoral training considered an asset.
Preference will be given to candidates who are capable of meeting the
College's undergraduate and graduate teaching needs in motor
learning/control and whose research expertise in motor learning/control
aligns with the College's areas of emphasis (as outlined above) and/or with
one or more of the core health research groups on campus. Please see

DUTIES: Duties include the development of a strong, externally funded
research program in motor learning/control applied to human movement. The
ability to work with an interdisciplinary team on research involving the
interplay of biomedical and psychosocial factors as they relate to human
movement, physical activity, physical fitness and health is a definite
asset. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to supervise
graduate students and to be competent in teaching at both the undergraduate
and graduate level.
SALARY AND RANK: This position is advertised at the Assistant Professor
level. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications (range $71,492 to
$86,066 per annum).
