    The Rehabilitation Medicine Department (RMD) within the Clinical Center
    (CC) of the National Institutes of Health is pleased to announce an
    immediate opening for a Director of its Biomechanics Program. This
    position will be tenured or on the tenure track and funding will be
    available to support the candidate's program of research. The Director
    will report to the Chief of the RMD.

    The Biomechanics Program offers a unique research opportunity in support
    of the mission of the NIH; fostering fundamental creative discoveries,
    developing scientific resources and expanding medical and scientific
    knowledge. The successful candidate will direct a state of the art
    motion capture lab (with a 4-force plate, 6-camera Vicon system, an
    instrumented treadmill, a Biodex, and a Phillips IU-22 ultrasound, along
    with access to various state-of-the-art technologies within the CC). The
    director will be expected to lead a diversified team of engineering and
    clinical staff in performance of cutting edge rehabilitation research.
    Responsibilities will include the development of innovative research
    tools, the creative application of these tools to critical research
    questions and the training of both clinical and engineering-based
    researchers.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provide visionary leadership in the field of biomechanics.
    2. Develop an independent line of research that compliments ongoing
    protocols.
    3. Provide ongoing research support of various CC and institute
    based protocols.
    4. Establish collaborations with other NIH institutes along with
    other experts in the field.
    5. Provide research training opportunities for research fellows,
    post-docs, and visiting scholars.
    6. Translate the research into both scholarly publications and into
    clinically applicable tools.
    7. Guide their research team in the process of data collection,
    monitoring and clinical interpretation.
    8. Serve as an expert in the field of biomechanics for both NIH and
    the wider research community.

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate will have:
    1. An advanced clinical degree or Ph.D. in biomechanics or related
    field.
    2. At least 3-5 years of experience working in a biomechanics
    laboratory.
    3. Expertise in three-dimensional, six degree-of-freedom kinematic
    and kinetic analyses is desirable, particularly of gait.
    4. Expertise in musculoskeletal modeling and data processing and
    analysis.
    5. Recognition of leadership within the field (e.g., a history of
    successful grantsmanship, a history of scholarly publications).
    6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
