ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR OF HUMAN SPACE LIFE SCIENCES

Position: Assistant/Associate/Full (Tenure Track) in Human Space Exploration Sciences. The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston is seeking a life scientist with demonstrable research skills in the area of human space life sciences. The position is a nine-month appointment with summer school teaching optional. Effective date of appointment will be August, 2008. The position is expected to be filled at the Assistant Professor level, but outstanding candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level will also be considered
Qualifications: Required: Earned doctorate in biomechanics, motor control, muscle, cardio or bone physiology, with the ability to investigate facets of the physiological and/or movement problems resulting from human exposure to low gravity environments; demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high quality research; demonstrated potential to engage in collaborative research projects with medical and governmental agencies located in Houston; a record of externally funded research; graduate and undergraduate teaching and student mentorship.
Responsibilities: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in human space life sciences. Train graduate students in area of specialization with an emphasis on human response to space flight. Develop and maintain a rigorous and externally funded scholarly research program. Perform service to the department, college, university and the profession. Contribute to the development and supervision of a Master's of Science curriculum in Human Space Exploration Sciences.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
