POSITION: The Department of Exercise and Sport, within the College of
Health and Human Performance, invites applicants for nine-month, fixed-term,
Teaching Instructor position with an emphasis in biomechanics, effective
August 18, 2008.

QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualifications are required: a master¹s degree
in the area of biomechanics, biomedical engineering, or related area; two
years experience in biomechanical testing in the areas of human locomotion
and isokinetic muscle testing; familiarity with motion analysis, force
platform, EMG, isokinetics, and Visual 3D analysis instruments and software,
and ability to teach undergraduate courses in biomechanics, functional
anatomy, and biomechanics instrumentation and research procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will contribute to the following
areas: teach undergraduate courses in the area of biomechanics; conduct
biomechanics research in human locomotion and human neuromuscular
properties; assist graduate and undergraduate students¹ research. Other
responsibilities include providing service to the department, university,
community, and profession.

THE DEPARTMENT: Exercise and Sport Science is comprised of 45 part- and
full-time faculty members, with 23 tenured and tenure-track and 22
fixed-term faculty. There are approximately 460 declared undergraduate
majors within five degree programs: Exercise and Sport Science, Exercise
Physiology, Health Fitness Specialist, Physical Education, and Sport
Studies. The Department¹s graduate program, encompassing 100 students,
offers an MS with six concentrations: Adapted Physical Education,
Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity Promotion, Physical
Education Pedagogy, and Sport Management and an interdisciplinary PhD in
Bioenergetics/ Exercise Physiology. The Department also offers a MAEd in
Physical Education in conjunction with the College of Education.

THE UNIVERSITY: East Carolina University, the third largest institution in
the 16-member University of North Carolina system has a mission to serve,
with emphasis on service to eastern North Carolina. Enrollment has grown to
nearly 26,000 students with over 3,600 graduate students. ECU offers 104
bachelor¹s degree programs, 73 master¹s degree programs, 4 specialist degree
programs, 2 first-professional programs (MD, DDS), and 17 doctoral programs
in eight professional colleges, the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and
Sciences, the Brody School of Medicine, and the recently established School

city of approximately 75,000 that is within two hours driving distance of
the Atlantic Coast to the east and the Research Triangle area of Raleigh,
Durham, and Chapel Hill to the west.

SALARY: Salary is competitive and commensurate with professional background
