  • Professorship @ Charite in Berlin: Engineering Basis ofRegeneration

The DFG Graduate School GSC 203
    “Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies”
invites applications for the following position:

    University Professorship
    “Engineering Basis of Regeneration”
    Salary Group W2 BBesG

The BSRT seeks to fill this position with an outstanding,
internationally recognised scientist preferably with a
track record in teaching. This chair should link the pure
scientist’s perspective on regeneration with the
translational aspects of regeneration as driven by
clinical needs. Candidates are expected to have a track
record in research and proven success in obtaining
third-party funding. Preferably, the focus will be
placed on teaching the engineering aspects of the
field of regenerative medicine in a multidisciplinary
environment. PhD students will be from a biological,
    bio-technological, material science, veterinary or
medical environment. In addition, in depth education
within the domains of engineering, physic and chemistry
will need to be elaborated by the candidate for
specialised PhD students in these domains. It is
expected that the candidate is interested in at
least one of the medical fields of the BCRT.
Future participation in an associated Collaborative
Research Centre such as e.g, the SFB 760 is encouraged.

Further details regarding the school, the research
center or the collaborative research activities may
    be obtained from

    Prof. Georg Duda
    (+49 30 450 559079 or georg.duda@charite.de).

The initial appointment is for five years with the
possibility of further extension following a successful
evaluation. Successful candidates will conduct visionary
independent research, obtain external funding and engage
in collaborative projects with groups at the BCRT, the
CHARITÉ, the MDC, the GKSS and with cooperating partners
of Berlin’s universities and other research foundations.

Candidates should be committed to teaching and be able to
demonstrate strong didactic qualities and an interest in
    innovative teaching methods.
    Qualifications: Junior Professorship, postdoctoral thesis
(Habilitation) or equivalent scientific achievement and
    teaching qualifications.

The CHARITÉ is an equal opportunity employer committed
to excellence through diversity. As women are under-
represented in scientific work, we particularly encourage
    women to submit their application.

Written applications in accordance with the format
    specified on the Internet-link http://www.charite.de/jobs/prof.html
should be submitted by 10.04.2008 to

The recently established Berlin-Brandenburg School for
Regenerative Therapies is a facility of the
Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and is closely
linked to the BMBF/Helmholtz-Association funded Translation
Center Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies.
The highly interactive research program of the center
comprises work in four medical research fields (musculoskeletal,
immunological, cardiovascular and nervous system), each of
which is linked to the overlapping platforms of basic
research, bioengineering, and translational research. With
the establishment of a total of more than 20 new research
groups, the school, together with the center, focuses on the
development and clinical translation of novel therapies and
products in the field of regenerative medicine. Based on the
collaboration of a range of partner research institutions and,
with the support of the regional development agencies and local
industry partners, the Berlin-Brandenburg region offers optimal
conditions for the education of young scientists eager to develop
and successfully transfer research findings into clinical
    applications.
