Orthopeutics is currently seeking a full-time Biomechanical Engineer
specializing in experimental soft-tissue mechanics. We are currently
accepting applications for this immediate opening and will continue
until the position is filled.
Orthopeutics is an early stage biotech company pioneering a nonsurgical
approach to treat orthopaedic diseases with a current emphasis on an
injectable matrix modification treatment for the intervertebral disc.
The company's headquarters are located in Georgetown, Texas, North of
Austin, providing an excellent, family oriented community, with a strong

academic-industry partnership that has been built with nearby Texas A&M
University.
Job Description:
The Biomechanical Engineer will be responsible for the development,
management and conduct of biomechanics and biomaterials research
projects. Daily responsibilities will include the following; develop
detailed research plans, perform advanced computational analysis, manage
internal and external resources to achieve project objectives, and make
recommendations in support of product development and future research.
Manage research projects from initial concept and feasibility through
transition to product development. Stay current with advances in spine
care and orthopaedic surgery, biomechanics, biomaterials and tissue
engineering. Attend technical meetings and participate in activities of
technical societies. Prepare reports and presentations for both
internal and external publication, and contribute to patent disclosures
and filings. May coordinate and direct activities of outside
contractors. Train and supervise student interns. The individual will
work alongside the company founder and will report directly to senior
management. Salary and other forms of compensation will be based on
education and experience.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have experience with experimental biomechanics
of the intervertebral disc. The candidate should be familiar with the
design and conduct of in vitro and in vivo experiments to characterize
the mechanical properties of soft tissues. The candidate should also be
familiar with standard analytical techniques, MATLAB programming, and
preparation of journal articles, grant applications, patent documents,
and IACUC and IRB applications. Candidates with PhD degree in
Biomechanics/ Mechanical Engineering/ Bioengineering/ Materials Science
or equivalent discipline with previous experience in experimental
characterization of mechanical properties are encouraged to apply.
Strong organizational and technical skills, good oral communication
skills, and the ability to work both independently and within a
multidisciplinary team are essential.
