  • Post-Doctoral Position in Spine Mechanics

    POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW, SPINE MECHANICS
    Boston University

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Boston University is seeking
a talented and motivated individual to join a project focused on
developing computed tomography (CT) based methods for obtaining
accurate, non-invasive estimates of vertebral strength and failure
mechanisms. Our overall hypothesis is that CT-based methods that
account for the heterogenous distribution of density and trabecular
anisotropy throughout the vertebra will produce more accurate
estimates of vertebral failure than methods based soley on average
density. The project involves CT and microCT imaging, finite element
analysis, mechanical testing, and digital volume correlation. The
post-doctoral fellow will be the primary person responsible for the
finite element analyses and will also work with graduate students and
staff on the mechanical testing and digital volume correlation. The
project team consists of engineering and clinical faculty, research
staff, and graduate and undergraduate students.

    Qualifications:
    - Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a closely
    related field
    - prior experience in finite element modeling
    - excellent written and oral English language communication skills
    - strong interpersonal skills
    - prior experience with biomechanical testing and/or computer
    programming is highly desirable

Starting date: estimated as August 1, 2008

Qualified applicants should send their CV and a list of three
references to Prof. Elise Morgan at efmorgan@bu.edu.
