The School of Applied Physiology at the Georgia Institute of Technology
announces the inauguration of the first PhD training program in prosthetics
and orthotics. Located in the College of Sciences, graduate training in the
School focuses on interdisciplinary education and research in biomechanics
and the physiological basis of movement control. Capitalizing on current
collaborations with units on campus, e.g. the College of Engineering, and
off campus, e.g. the School of Medicine at Emory University, the program
invites applicants to become active participants in the evolution of a
"research culture" in the field of prosthetics and orthotics, advance the
profession and, in the larger context, contribute to the broader field of
Rehabilitation Medicine. Applicants should be forward thinking and ready to
embrace potential leadership opportunities in collaborative research efforts
to advance the field of Rehabilitation Medicine.
With the support of the NIH and the Georgia Institute of Technology, three
students will be accepted into the program each year. Each student will be
supported for three years including a stipend, tuition waiver, a travel
budget and funding for related expenses. Twenty-six graduate faculty and
over 50 clinical faculty residing in 5 separate Schools at Georgia Tech, 2
schools at Georgia State and 2 departments in the School of Medicine at
Emory University are committed to mentoring students and actively
participating in related committee work. The flexible curriculum with a
series of required and elective classes is designed to accommodate basic
undergraduate preparation in engineering and the life sciences as well as
pre-professional applicants and post-professional applicants in the fields
of medicine, prosthetics/orthotics as well as physical and occupational
therapy.
For information regarding application to the program please contact Joy
Daniell at: joy.daniell@ap.gatech.edu.
For information regarding curriculum, program structure, etc. please contact
