    The Pediatric Orthopedic and Scoliosis Division at Children's Specialists of
    San Diego, California announces the following exciting employment
    opportunity to support our research program at the Orthopedic Biomechanics
    Research Center (OBRC).

    RESEARCH ENGINEER

    The Research Engineer at the Orthopedic Biomechanics Research Center is
    responsible for developing and conducting new and innovative biomechanical
    research projects, writing proposals/applications for industry,
    professional, and governmental grant sponsorship, and networking within the
    professional, clinical, and academic communities for prospective research
    projects and funding. Trains engineering interns and associates in:
    collection and processing of clinical and research data, utilizing and
    improving hardware/software systems and processes used in both biomechanical
    testing and in-vivo studies. The individual will also work closely with the
    Motion Analysis Laboratory and Center for Human Performance on clinical gait
    and sports medicine research.

    This is a benefits-eligible FULL-TIME (100% FTE) position.

    Duties Include (but not limited to):

    Operate and maintain equipment used in specimen/patient data collection
    including, but not limited to, motion analysis systems, video cameras,
    servo-hydraulic material testing machine, strain gage equipment, power
    tools, milling machine, basic fabrication equipment, etc.
    Assist with tissue harvests and research animal care as part of study
    protocols
    Improve hardware/software systems and processes for biomechanical research
    Participates in all aspects of research, including conception, literature
    review, data collection and analysis, and manuscript writing.
    Works independently and in collaboration with Ortho Research, Motion
    Analysis Laboratory, and Center for Human Performance.
    Communicates effectively with the Biomechanics, MAL/CHP, and Ortho
    Research teams.
    Performs background reviews and literature searches in orthopedic
    biomechanics and motion analysis.
    Other duties as assigned by the manager/director of the OBRC and/or Chief
    of Orthopedic Research.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    PhD degree in biomedical, biomechanical, and/or mechanical engineering or
    related discipline, with a minimum of 1 year experience in biomechanics
    research, preferably in orthopedics at this institution
    Minimum of 1-2 years previous experience at this institution or other
    related environment.
    Experience in at least one programming language, preferably MatLab, .NET,
    or LabView.
    Experience with biohazardous materials.
    Experience with instrumented mechanical testing, motion analysis, EMG, and
    hardware/software integration
    Experience in applied research and clinically based science

    Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and skills set.

    The Orthopedic Biomechanics Research Center, located on the campus of Rady
    Childrens Hospital San Diego, is a state-of-the-art research facility
    focusing on pre-clinical, in-vitro, and clinical orthopedic biomechanical
    testing of surgical implants, orthopedic devices, and surgical procedures.
    The center houses an instrumented material testing machine, motion analysis
    system, strain gauges, and various machine tools. The Center for Human
    Performance, located within the adjacent Motion Analysis Laboratory, focuses
    on research and clinical services in clinical gait analysis, motion analysis
    of baseball pitching, running, and golf, upper extremity biomechanics, and
    motion capture for animation.

    Situated in beautiful sunny (11.5/12 months) San Diego, California, the OBRC
    collaborates with researchers from University of California San Diego and
    San Diego State University as well as with local industry organizations.
