    Gait Lab Research Coordinator
    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Works independently and with minimal supervision. Performs a variety
    of functions involved with research studies and has frequent direct
    contact with study participants. Responsible for coordinating
    research grant studies and testing in the biomechanics laboratory.
    Assists biomechanics lab manger in maintenance of the biomechanics
    laboratory. This is a 3-year position funded by the National
    Institutes of Health.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education, Experience and Training
    Master's Degree with specialized training plus some experience with
    biomechanics or kinesiology, or an equivalent combination of
    education and experience. Engineering experience a plus. Some
    research experience preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, Ability
    • Ability to perform gait analysis using three dimensional
    motion analysis equipment
    • Ability to perform isokinetic strength testing
    • Ability to perform electromyographical analysis
    • Ability to write, or learn to write, computer programs for
    specific analyses not available from manufacturer
    • Proficiency in Word, Excel, SPSS and other computer applications
    • Ability to work well with others in a team environment and
    with older adults
    • Ability to work independently and to be self-motivated

    Physical Requirements
    Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a
    negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Talking,
    hearing, walking, kneeling, reaching, crouching, lifting, fingering,
    repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed
    to adverse environmental conditions.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Administers physical performance and biomechanics testing
    (gait, balance, strength)
    • Coordinates biomechanics laboratory usage with lab manager
    • Coordinates data; maintains patient files, provides reports
    and transfers data to project manager, principal investigator,
    statistician, and/or sponsor
    • Distributes medical reports to participants
    • Assists in interaction with sponsor of study, principal
    investigator, and project manager
    • Assists in developing the study manual of procedures
    • Serves as a resource person for other ongoing studies
    • Assists in recruitment for study participants
    • Performs other related duties as assigned

    OTHER FUNCTIONS:

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
    Supervises, trains, provides work direction and problem solving
    assistance for student workers
    Supervises study participants

    AUTHORITY/ACCOUNTABILITY:
    Works under minimal supervision. Reports to the Principal Investigator.

    Ensures participants' safety in accordance with the Institutional
    Review Board
    Oversees volunteers and student workers
    Oversees biomechanics laboratory in conjunction with lab manager

    PROBLEM SOLVING:
    Trouble-shoots and solves problems associated with study
    participants, research, and the biomechanics laboratory.
    Creates and initiates procedures for situations related to research
    study.
