    The Pediatric Orthopedic and Scoliosis Division at Children's Specialists of
    San Diego, California announces the following exciting employment
    opportunity to support our research program at the Orthopedic Biomechanics
    Research Center (OBRC):

    RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (BIOENGINEER)

    Under the supervision of the Director, the Research Associate is
    responsible for data collection, analysis and troubleshooting in
    biomechanical research as well as maintaining databases, preliminary study
    statistics and manuscripts, literature reviews, ordering supplies, and
    various other tasks as assigned by the Director. The Research Associate may
    work in the Center for Human Performance as well as various departments
    within Orthopedic Research. Responsible for assisting the Biomechanical
    Research Engineer in developing, maintaining, utilizing and improving
    hardware and software systems and processes used in both biomechanical
    testing and in vivo studies (ie, motion analysis studies). Participates in
    educational and professional conferences and activities, consistent with the
    needs of the Department of Orthopedics and the mission of the Orthopedic
    Biomechanics Research Center.

    Assist staff in maintaining and researching, systems, processes and methods
    to expand the laboratory's capabilities for orthopedics research.
    Responsible for daily tasks, i.e.:

    Operate and maintain equipment used in specimen/patient data collection
    including, but not limited to, motion analysis systems, video cameras,
    servohydraulic material testing machine, strain gage equipment, power tools,
    milling machine, basic fabrication equipment, etc.
    Maintain technical protocols, SOPs, safety binders, manuals
    Assist with tissue harvests and research animal care
    Works in collaboration with OBRC, Center for Human Performance, and
    Orthopedic Research and In-Vivo studies team members.
    Coordinates activities and information pertaining to data collection and
    protocol compliance.
    Assist in the development and maintenance of technical protocols for
    research project.
    Communicates effectively with the Biomechanics and Ortho Research teams.
    Assist the staff in performing background reviews and literature searches
    in orthopedic biomechanics, motion analysis, and clinical orthopedics.
    Involved in all phases of research protocol.
    Other duties as assigned by the OBRC Director.

    STATUS:
    Full-Time (100% FTE)

    COMPENSATION:
    Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and skills set.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION:
    BS degree in biomedical, biomechanical, and/or mechanical engineering with
    a minimum of 1 year experience in biomechanics research

    DESIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
    Experience in MatLab, LabView, VB.NET, or similar programming languages.
    Experience with biohazardous materials.
    Experience with hardware, firmware and software integration.

    The Orthopedic Biomechanics Research Center, located on the campus of Rady
    Childrens Hospital San Diego, is a state-of-the-art research facility
    focusing on pre-clinical, in-vitro, and clinical orthopedic biomechanical
    testing of surgical implants, orthopedic devices, and surgical procedures.
    The center houses an instrumented material testing machine, motion analysis
    system, strain gauges, and various machine tools. The Center for Human
    Performance, located within the adjacent Motion Analysis Laboratory, focuses
    on research and clinical services in clinical gait analysis, motion analysis
    of baseball pitching, running, and golf, upper extremity biomechanics, and
    motion capture for animation.

    Situated in beautiful sunny (11.5/12 months) San Diego, California, the OBRC
    collaborates with researchers from University of California San Diego and
    San Diego State University as well as with local industry organizations.
