  • Research Fellow Position - Center for Injury Biomechanics - WakeForest University

    Position Open

    Research Fellow

    Center for Injury Biomechanics

    Department of Biomedical Engineering

Wake Forest University School of Medicine

A postdoctoral research fellowship is available in the Center for Injury
Biomechanics, in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Wake Forest
University School of Medicine. We are searching for an outstanding
research fellow to assist in the development of finite element models
for injury prediction and prevention. This position is part of a
multi-center, collaborative project between industrial partners and
leading universities in the field of injury biomechanics. We seek to
prepare the selected candidate for a competitive career in an academic
    or industrial research setting.

In the course of performing the duties of this position we anticipate
that the fellow will: 1) be exposed to state-of-the-art finite element
modeling techniques encompassing all aspects of model development
efforts, including but not limited to, parametric mesh development,
material model optimization, contact algorithm selection, and geometric
morphometrics 2) become skilled in the design and implementation of
experimental techniques necessary to validate computational results, 3)
further develop scientific publishing skills by authoring and
co-authoring high quality journal articles, 4) have the opportunity to
participate in a number of ongoing interdisciplinary research projects
related to injury biomechanics currently underway in our center, 5)
develop excellent presentation skills by participating in national and
international conferences, 6) develop a valuable peer network through
collaboration with industry and university partners and 7) encourage the
individual's own research interests and grant writing skills to support
    future work.

The injury biomechanics group at Wake Forest University is a part of the
Virginia Tech - Wake Forest University Center for Injury Biomechanics.
This joint center is a leading research institution in the field,
offering state-of-the-art facilities for conducting all aspects of
injury biomechanics research. A unique attribute of our center at Wake
Forest is that we are under the auspices of the Wake Forest School of
Medicine, facilitating collaboration with clinical faculty.

The ideal candidate should be able to perform independent research, have
peer reviewed publications in dynamic finite element simulation,
familiarity with medical image segmentation, geometry generation and
finite element mesh development and, excellent verbal and written
communication skills, and should work well in a team setting. A Ph.D.
in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, or mechanical engineering is
required. Strong candidates with a doctoral degree in a closely related
    field will be considered.

Wake Forest University is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Winston-Salem is routinely ranked as one of the most livable communities
in the United States, offering a mild climate, and a wide variety
    recreational and sporting activities.

Applicants should apply for the position online at , following the link for Wake Forest
University Health Sciences. Job ID is 11461.

In addition to applying online, applicants should send a cover letter,
curriculum vitae, copies of two representative publications, and contact
information for two references to Paper
submissions of these materials should be addressed to Joel D. Stitzel,
    Ph.D.; Department of Biomedical Engineering; Medical Center Blvd.;
Winston-Salem, NC 27157. Review of applicants will begin immediately.
