Northern Michigan University
Assistant Professor of Physical Education
Position: Expected Assistant Professor of Physical Education Pedagogy. The
starting date is January 7, 2009. This is a full-time, 9 month, tenure track
position.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Physical Education. One year minimum
K-12 public school physical education experience required, college teaching
experience preferred.
Responsibilities: Candidates will coordinate the undergraduate physical
education program, advise majors and minors, serve on university committees,
and develop a personal program for scholarship/research and service.
Teaching responsibilities include the following undergraduate courses: Intro
to P.E., Teaching Methods, Measurement & Evaluation, Motor Development,
Adapted PE, and supervision of student teachers.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
The Department: The Department of HPER offers majors in physical education,
school & community health education, outdoor recreation leadership &
management, athletic training, sports science, health & fitness management,
and a master of science degree in exercise science. There are 12 full-time
faculty as well as 9 graduate assistants and a number of adjunct instructors
and more than 500 majors.
The University: NMU is a state-assisted university founded in 1899. It is
located in the city of Marquette (population 21,000) in Marquette County
(population 64,000), a 2003 All-American County recipient and honored as one
of America's Most Livable Communities in 2004. The area is located along
the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula. On a
323 acre campus, NMU offers 200 majors for programs that range from diploma
to the master's level. There are more than 320 faculty members in our three
colleges and a college of graduate studies. The HPER faculty is represented
by the AAUP collective bargaining unit.
