The Department of Mechanical Engineering and School of Biomedical
Engineering at Colorado State University invites applicants to apply for
a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position beginning Fall
2009. Exceptionally qualified applicants will be considered at the
Associate or Full Professor level.
Position Description
This is a full time position with a nine-month appointment, beginning in
the fall term of 2009 (or later). This faculty member will: develop an
externally-funded, internationally renowned program that includes
support of graduate students; participate in appropriate professional
and University service activities; teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in mechanical and biomedical engineering; and, advise
undergraduate and graduate students in mechanical and biomedical
engineering.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to scholarship, the
development of an externally funded research program, and to teaching at
the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants must have:
• An earned doctorate in engineering or a related science by January 2009.
• Demonstrated experience in the field of Biomedical Engineering, that
is, in the “Application of engineering and scientific principles to the
solution of problems in healthcare.”
• Demonstrated ability or potential to develop a funded research program
that complements our existing School of Biomedical Engineering and
Mechanical Engineering research programs.
• Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Mechanical
Engineering Department and School of Biomedical Engineering.
Preferred competence areas within the Biomedical Engineering Field include:
• Cancer Applications
• Biofluids and Transport
• Cardiovascular Applications
• Bioimaging/nanotechnology Applications
• Systems Engineering for Biomedical Applications
Highly qualified candidates in any area of biomedical engineering that
complements current research at CSU will be considered for the position.
In addition, it is preferred for the applicant to have post-doctoral
experience in an academic, government or industrial setting and have had
experience with federal funding (NIH, NSF, etc.) agencies.
School of Biomedical Engineering
The School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) is supported by four
colleges (Engineering, Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences,
Natural Sciences, and Applied Human Sciences) and has over 50 faculty
members from 14 departments, providing a unique interdisciplinary focus
on bioengineering research and education at Colorado State University
(CSU). The School’s structure offers many advantages over a traditional
academic department structure because it enables horizontal integration
of faculty and their research programs across multiple departments. The
SBME faculty research is in the following areas: biomechanics and
biomaterials; medical diagnostics, devices, and imaging; molecular,
cellular and tissue engineering.
SBME has a highly competitive graduate education program that offers
M.E., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. SBME offers interdisciplinary studies

Department of Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has 22 faculty members and
offers a curriculum that combines classroom learning with engineering
practice. In the undergraduate program, a broad spectrum of classes is
available for learning about the fundamentals of the mechanical
engineering profession. Students not only learn about mechanical
engineering analysis and design, they also gain valuable hands-on
experience through class projects and application-oriented research. All
senior ME students can participate in designing and building a capstone
project that is part of a national senior design competition. Each
project is based on a corporate model that provides students significant
opportunities for leadership development and experiential learning. In
the graduate program, MS and PhD students are integral members of
research teams addressing global issues. Student researchers apply the
fundamental concepts of mechanical engineering to aid in the development
of new technology in areas which include: biofuels, clean engines,
photovoltaic solar cells, battery technologies, materials science,
bioengineering, plasmas and space propulsion, dynamics and controls, and

Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Animal Cancer Center
The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) is
home to the #2 ranked veterinary medicine program in the nation (U.S.
News and World Report). The CVMBS faculty are involved in both basic and
clinical research -- premiere animal research facilities and the
clinical/surgical expertise to go with them are available in CVMBS. The
faculties from Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and CVMBS
