  • Faculty postion in cardiovascular engineering

The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce a tenure-stream faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Our department, ranked nationally in the top 15, has exceptionally strong research and educational programs, offering undergraduate (145 students) and graduate (MS, PhD, and MD/PhD; 175 students) degrees. The Department is located directly across the street from and interacts closely with the School of Medicine, rated nationally in the top 10 in NIH funding. The Department has a long-standing tradition in cardiovascular bioengineering and regenerative medicine. The McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine (www.mirm.pitt.edu) and Magnetic Resonance Research Center (www.mrctr.upmc.edu) offer many research opportunities in the areas of tissue/organ engineering and imaging, medical device development, and cellular therapies. In addition, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (http://www.psc.edu/) has a leading comprehensive cyberinfrastructure enabling world-class open computational research. Recent additions to the Departmental research infrastructure include state-of-the-art laboratory space in the new Biomedical Science Tower-3, a joint facility housing faculty from the Schools of Medicine and Engineering. In addition, there are three NIH-funded pre-doctoral training programs in the Department: Cellular Approaches to Tissue Engineering/Regeneration, Biomechanics in Regenerative Medicine, and Cardiovascular Bioengineering. Further information about our faculty and educational and research programs can be found at http://www.engr.pitt.edu/bioengineering/main/.

We are seeking an individual with expertise in cardiovascular biomechanics, with an emphasis in biofluids, fluid-solid interactions, bioreactor design, transport, and integration with medical imaging. Desirable candidates will possess a strong track record combined computational-experimental approaches, with substantial experience in biomedical/biological applications. It is expected that the chosen candidate will develop a successful extramurally funded research program, and participate in both undergraduate and graduate education and classroom instruction.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible. Candidates are encouraged to apply early because applications will be reviewed as they are received. Please note that application material must be submitted electronically via our Departmental website: http://www.engr.pitt.edu/bioengineering/main/. Follow the instructions on the website to submit a complete dossier. Detailed questions can also be directed to Dr. Michael Sacks, search committee chair, at msacks@pitt.edu.

The University of Pittsburgh is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities.
