The Effects of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
Funded by the Multiple Sclerosis Society
Professor Tom Mercer and Dr Marietta van der Linden invite applications for a Multiple Sclerosis Society funded PhD studentship investigating "the effects of functional electrical stimulation (FES) on walking performance, fatigue, activity of daily living (ADL) and quality of life in people with MS". This studentship is available from January 2009 for a period of three years and provides an enhanced stipend starting at £16,853 per annum in the first year. Due to fee-funding restrictions, only UK citizens or EU citizens with UK resident status are eligible for this award. An exceptional individual, you will ideally have completed a relevant Master's degree (e.g. Physiotherapy, Human Movement Science, Clinical Biomechanics, Kinesiology) and have demonstrable experience of Human Movement Analysis. Applications must be made on the standard PhD application form, accompanied by a cover letter (including the names of two persons who can be approached to provide an academic reference). The cover letter should outline any personal, academic and technical attributes that the applicant feels will contribute to the research team. The closing date for applications is January 8th 2009 and interviews are scheduled for Tuesday 20 January 2009.
Any disabled applicant who meets the initial minimum criteria, as stated in the Person Specification, will be invited to interview.
