Announcing the 25th Southern Biomedical Engineering Conference - Join us in Miami, FL, in May 2009!
The short abstract submission deadline is fast approaching! The last day to submit short abstracts is January 30, 2009. Additional information on the conference is included below and can also be accessed at the official website:

The aim of this conference is to bring together researchers, clinicians, students, and industry leaders to discuss current ideas and concepts in biomedical research. The 2009 Southern Biomedical Engineering Conference will be held May 15-17, 2009 in Miami, Florida. The program will include keynote lectures, presentations in diverse areas of biotechnology, and student competitions. Registration forms and information for participants are already available in the registration section of our website at http://www.bme.fiu.edu/SBEC2009
Even though this is primarily a regional conference, attendance from all regions of the US, Latin America, and around the world is strongly encouraged and welcomed. An important incentive of the Southern Biomedical Engineering Conference is that it is not as large as many of the international meetings, so that interactions between students and prominent biomedical engineers from many diverse fields are facilitated. These interactions are key to the field's continued development and advancement, and they provide an excellent platform for networking and exchanging ideas.
The deadline for submission of short abstracts will be January 30th, 2009. Instructions for abstract formatting are available at http://www.bme.fiu.edu/SBEC2009/index.htm Please make sure to follow the formatting instructions posted as a Word file. The abstract need not be an exact number of words, but it must follow the requirements for number of lines in order to meet printing specifications.
Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as medical/dental students and residency candidates are encouraged to submit abstracts for the student paper competition. Several student awards will be given to honor the best presentations in each category. Please indicate in your cover letter or email your student status and if you wish your presentation to be included in the student paper competition.
Extended abstracts will be due March 15, 2009. Instructions are already available at http://www.bme.fiu.edu/SBEC2009/ExtendedAbstracts.htm All the accepted papers will be published in an archival book entitled BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING: RECENT DEVELOPMENTS that will be available at the meeting. We are also proud to announce that we will be collecting full paper manuscripts (due date March 15th, 2009) for consideration to be published in the American Journal of Biomedical Science (AJBMS) as a special issue on Biomedical Engineering. We also extend an invitation to exhibitors and sponsors to participate in SBEC 2009 and take advantage of the chance to interact with presenters and attendees.
