Hello,
I've summarized the responses I received regarding my questions on clinical running analysis. Mostly, I received requests from other investigators to share the information I learned. However, it doesn't appear that there are many people doing this type of work (only 1 person addressed each of my questions). I did receive a few helpful links to working running clinics, but I haven't had a chance to contact all of them. I am definitely still open to suggestions.
Regards,
Adam Miller

Response to my questions:
1. On average, what is your % reimbursement by insurance for your service?
On average, a typical reimbursement rate is around 60%. We have not studied the CPT code for "tests and measures" specifically, however.
a. If you are billing insurance companies, what CPT code(s) are you using?
For a new patient with a doctor's prescription we charge a PT Evaluation only. For a current patient, we charge the "PT tests and measures code."
2. What percent of subjects are willing to self pay for the service?
We at this time do not offer self-pay. When I used to work in Chicago, the company I worked for did offer self pay for a video analysis, but the % who went this route was under 10% for sure. We charged $150 for the service and that included a full biomechanical exam, video analysis using dartfish software, and a home exercise program instruction.
3. Have there been any studies on the topic of the clinical utility of this service (or do you have any thoughts on this)?
None that I am aware of
4. Do your subjects run on an instrumented treadmill or over ground?
We use a treadmill and take video from the anterior, posterior, and 1 lateral view.
Our system is a 2-D system. We do have a 3-D system but that is utilized for research only and thus far no running studies have been conducted from our lab that I am aware of. The 2-D system works great from a clinical standpoint.
