- An excellent academic program, not offered in the US, is at an
institution in another country.
- An NGO relevant to a student is doing important work in
another country.
- US University departments can strengthen ties with overseas
labs, without cost.
- Most importantly, an alum of the Whitaker Program has an
alumni network of fellow world-class bioengineers with a global
perspective.
Other Information:
The Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program was created by
The Whitaker Foundation and the Institute of International Education
(IIE) in 2005, with the goal of increasing international collaboration
among emerging leaders in the field of biomedical engineering.
The Foundation closed in 2006, and IIE continues to administer the
program in accordance with The Foundation's wishes. The Whitaker
International Program is overseen by a Steering Committee appointed by
The Whitaker Foundation and IIE. The Whitaker Program is expected to
continue providing grants to emerging leaders in BME until approximately
2020.
