Doctoral Student Research Position in Elbow Biomechanics, University of
    Pittsburgh

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in
Pittsburgh, PA, has support for a doctoral student to work in upper
extremity biomechanics. The focus is translational research in surgical
interventions of the elbow, where continuing studies include kinematic
analysis of radial head replacement and in vitro characterization of
ulnar collateral ligament repair. Tools involve motion analysis of fine
movements, a robotically controlled elbow simulator and small-scale
rheometry. An animal model of ligament repair is beginning, employing
protein interventions, microCT scans and mechanical testing.

Expectations of the candidate include a keen interest in patient
outcomes, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the
ability to work independently and as part of a research team in an
environment that includes both medical and academic personnel. A
master’s degree in engineering is required. A candidate interested in
    mechanical engineering is preferred.
