The 2nd International Evidence Based Practice in Wound Care will be held
June 5-6, 2009 at the Hilton Cleveland East, Beachwood, Ohio
Conference objectives
The focus of the conference is the Effective Implementation of Pressure
Ulcer Clinical Practice Guidelines, a topic that is extremely important in
the care of many at-risk patients.
Pressure ulcers are staggeringly costly for clinical facilities from the
acute care setting to long-term care. Pressure ulcers also cause
significant human suffering, including profound negative impacts on
general physical health, socialization, financial status, body image,
level of independence and control. The recent decision by the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to stop reimbursement for
hospital-acquired pressure ulcers adds another significant challenge.
Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines have the potential to improve
the standard of care for pressure ulcers and decrease associated costs.
Nevertheless, in reality, significant barriers in the implementation of
clinical practice guidelines have been found. It is imperative that these
implementation issues are addressed.
This program is designed for the many specialties involved in the
interdisciplinary field of wound care research and will provide attendees
with tools to enable them to effectively implement evidence-based practice
approaches to pressure ulcer care. An internationally renowned conference
faculty will be speaking at the conference and participating in
interactive breakout sessions.
