    Position Announcement for Footwear Project Engineer

    U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center,
    Natick, MA, U.S.A.

    We are seeking a physical scientist with expertise in biomechanics for a
    position in the Footwear Performance Laboratory, Warrior Equipment
    Systems Division, Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering
    Center (NSRDEC). Programs address the effects of clothing, footwear,
    load-carriage gear, and other personal equipment on soldiers' ability to
    perform their missions. Successful candidate will serve as Project
    Engineer on team for individual combat equipment items such as footwear,
    leather and individual equipment to provide increased operational
    capability and protection from environmental and enemy imposed threats.
    Serve as technical expert in these disciplines in the application of
    advanced theories, concepts, principles and processes with the goal of
    increasing Soldier lethality, comfort and protection through innovative
    equipment designs applying biomechanical principles that stay within
    operational limitations. Provide input in tech-based footwear and
    equipment studies.

    The successful candidate will possess a degree (Bachelors Degree
    required, Masters Degree preferred) in exercise and sport science,
    kinesiology or related fields with emphasis in human biomechanics.
    Interest in the lower leg biomechanics is desirable. Strong
    methodological skills are necessary. The successful candidate will be
    experienced in use of tools for collecting and analyzing biomechanical
    data, including motion analysis systems, force plates, and EMG systems.
    Ability to apply statistical techniques to the analysis of biomechanical
    data is required. The successful candidate will be responsible for the
    application of theories, principles and practices of engineering design,
    biomechanics, ergonomics and materials to bring together the complex
    interrelationships of many variables into working combat equipment
    items; Plan design approach from Requirements Documents, analyze and
    evaluate requirements, and conduct studies for the purpose of developing
    new and improved design features; Conduct and report joint ergonomic
    research studies in equipment design to enhance Marine/Soldier
    performance on the battlefield; and Determine the need for future
    studies in order to support mission objectives. Salary range is $50,769
    - $66,000, depending upon experience and qualifications.
