The Mawson Institute at the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment at the University of South Australia is searching for a Ph.D. student to work on a project to study full body kinematics in vehicle environments commencing immediately. The PhD studentship is a grant by the AutoCRC, Australia's Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Automotive Technology. A minimum of a B.S. (Honours) in mechanical, mechatronic or biomedical engineering or a related field is required, a masters degree is desired. The position will require collection of anthropometric data, kinematic and kinetic analysis, motion simulation and biomechanic modelling. Experience with either VICON MX, Visual 3D, PLM JACK or Anybody as well as basic programming skills would be helpful. Support for teaching and/or grading of undergraduate classes may be necessary in the second year.
This project will be conducted within the Ergonomics Laboratory at the University of South Australia in Adelaide, which includes collaboration with the department of Health Sciences, and will be embedded into a research scheme for automotive ergonomics. Our laboratory facilities and systems include VICON MX 12 camera motion analysis, force measurement, physiologic measurements, virtual reality and simulation environments, finite element and rigid body modelling capabilities.
