4th Annual Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Certification Course
Date: August 2-6, 2009
Instructor:
Beth Fisher, PT, PhD
Assistant Instructors:
Shailesh Kantak, MS, PT
Erica Pitsch, MPT
James Boniauto, BS
University of Southern California
Division of Biokinesiology & Physical Therapy Neuroplasticity and Imaging Laboratory
Background: TMS is developing as a powerful non-invasive tool for studying neuroplasticity in the human brain. It is used both to measure and modulate brain excitability. TMS is currently being used to study brain changes following intervention in healthy and pathologic populations. In addition, it is being studied as a treatment modality to augment recovery in a variety of disorders.
Course Overview:
This is a five day intensive training course in the theory and practice underlying the use of TMS in brain research. The course uses both lecture and laboratory format.
The course includes hands-on practice of all the most commonly used TMS research techniques including:
Single Pulse TMS
Paired Pulse TMS
Repetitive TMS
Image-guided TMS using Brainsight Neuro Navigation System(tm)
Participants: The course is designed for Researchers Clinicians Graduate students Interested in studying brain function using TMS
Registration: Class size is limited in order to ensure an effective learning experience for all participants. For a course application and additional information, please call, email, or go to our website at http://pt.usc.edu/SubLayout.aspx?menu_id=68&id=3078
Applications are due by June 1, 2009. Applications will be considered in the order received.
