    FALL 2009 GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP
    UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER

    We are currently accepting applications for graduate research assistantships starting in the Fall of 2009 within the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging. These research assistantships are supported by internal funds and include a stipend and tuition reimbursement.     DEGREES OFFERED: There are currently two openings at the MS level in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN. The research assistantships will be in the Joint Implant Biomechanics Labs (JIBLs) where the primary focus of research is in spine and orthopedic biomechanics. Most recently these laboratories have evaluated several implantable intervertebral disc replacement and nucleus arthroplasty devices, and have constructed a multi-axis robotic based programmable testing system which is continually being developed and applied towards novel in-vitro testing protocols.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties will include preparation of human cadaveric tissue, set up and execution of existing and new laboratory testing protocols, data collection and statistical analysis, project coordination between industrial and surgical collaborators, as well as report and manuscript preparation. Individuals may also become involved in robotic programming and test protocol development if so interested/qualified.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: BS in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering.
