Research Engineer - Small Animal Imaging and Biomechanics

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis has an immediate opening for an entry-level Research Engineer/Technician to operate an NIH-funded imaging/biomechanics core. The main duty of the job will be to provide service to a large base of musculoskeletal researchers who comprise the Washington University Core Center for Musculoskeletal Biology and Medicine.
Requirements: B.S. degree or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related discipline. Experience in image analysis. MATLAB programming. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Additional Skills: Experience with microCT scanning, morphological analysis, mechanical testing.
Duties: Manage and operate a core facility dedicated to imaging and mechanical testing of musculoskeletal tissues from small animals (primarily mouse and rat). Maintain equipment including two microCT scanners. Perform CT scans and quantitative morphological analysis on samples provided by researchers. Train and assist non-expert users. Develop and implement quality control practices and standard operating procedures.
