PhD position – Fatigue during ultra distance exercise in altitude

University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, Faculty of Sport Sciences, France

The Laboratory of Human Motricity, Education and Health from the Faculty of
Sport Sciences, University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, France has a PhD position
entitled "Fatigue during ultra distance exercise in altitude: underlying
mechanisms". Master degree with a background in sport sciences, exercise
physiology, neurophysiology, biochemistry, bioengineering and others are
    encouraged to apply.

The position will start in September 2009 and last 3 years.

Salary is attractive and in accordance with the scales set by the French government.

Project: "Fatigue during ultra distance exercise in altitude: underlying mechanisms"

Traditionally, the limits of physical performance are explained by various
models of fatigue explained by different approaches including cardiovascular,
metabolic, neurophysiologic, neuromuscular or thermal levels related to muscular
damage. More recently, an integrated model of regulation emanating from the
central nervous system in order to explain the power changes during exercise has
been proposed (Noakes 2000, 2004, 2007). However, these underlying mechanisms of
fatigue were mainly analyzed during prolonged exercise but rarely during
exercises in which several regulatory mechanisms may interfere. Thus, the
purpose of this work is to identify the underlying mechanisms of fatigue during
    long-term exercise with multiple contraints.

Applicants should be ready to have an audition in Marseille, France, at the
    beginning of September.
