PhD Studentship - Training and Fitting Amputees during Situations of Daily Living Biomechanics Laboratory (LBM, Arts et Metiers ParisTech-CNRS UMR 8005), Paris, France

We are looking for a PhD student interested in the field of locomotion of people with amputation.

The project focuses on lower limb amputee and more specifically in training and fitting these patients for several situations of daily living. Indeed, lower limb amputation implies limitations in the everyday life activities of the patients. Particularly, some situations are identified as difficult to realize by patients although they encounter them everyday. For example these situations can be stair ascent and descent or walking on sloped surfaces. The aim of the project is to focus on the functions to be restored by the prosthetic components in some of these situations. These situations will be reproduced to carry out kinematic and dynamic motion analysis. The project should allow proposing technologic solutions and prototypes able to adapt to the situations studied.

The project is a collaborative research between LBM, Proteor (French manufacturer of prosthetic components) and CERAH (center of study and research on disabled people).

Candidates must have a Masters degree in mechanical/ biomedical engineering, biomechanics or a related discipline. First research experience with human subjects, motion analysis, statistical analysis software and general programming (MatLab and Labview) will be appreciated.

The candidate will be co-supervised by Pr Francois Lavaste and Helene Pillet of Biomechanics Laboratory (LBM, Arts et Metiers ParisTech-CNRS UMR 8005).

Interested candidates should email a brief letter describing their motivation and a detailed CV to:

    Mme Hélène Pillet (LBM) Helene.pillet@paris.ensam.fr

And M Jacky Mille (Proteor) jmille@proteor.com
