Job Opportunity - Post-Doctoral Research Fellow - Clinical Gait Analysis

An opportunity has arisen for a post-doctoral research fellow with the School of Health, Sport and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Salford to work jointly on an Arthritis Research Campaign (ARC) project and also within the Salford Gait Analysis Laboratory.

The Research into Osteoarthritis in Manchester (ROAM) team has been successful in attracting ARC funding for studies on knee osteoarthritis primarily. The research programme at the University of Salford involves undertaking gait analysis in a range of footwear and insole interventions which will follow-on to a larger study in the near future. The Salford Gait Analysis Service assesses primarily children in the Greater Manchester area and the successful candidate will work alongside other members of the team to aid and develop the potential of this service.

The successful candidate will have existing research experience with a PhD in a related movement analysis/ gait subject with a strong engineering aspect. They will be able to demonstrate prior experience of both experimental biomechanics research (for example, motion analysis, EMG, foot pressure) and clinical trials research relevant to gait analysis. They will have an understanding of clinical biomechanics as it applied to the lower limb and demonstrate knowledge on a range of foot and lower limb health and disease topics. They will have experience of dealing with patients and members of the public participating in research.

    Specific duties include:

To undertake biomechanics and clinical research projects related to the ARC ROAM research programme

    * To help conceive and plan future experimental studies related to the ARC ROAM research programme
    * To work within the project timescales and agreed work plans.
    * To collect, process and interpret biomechanical data in the Salford Gait laboratory for a wide range of studies.
    * To ensure that research is conducted to appropriate ethical and governance standards as defined by the University.
    * To liaise with other and academic and project staff employed in the ARC ROAM project in a manner such that there is collective support for all aspects of the programme.
    * Where necessary, to present the technical research work of the University to other University staff/students and externally at national/international conferences.
