  • Post-Doctoral Study Position: Austin / San Antonio, TX

Post-Doctoral Study at U. Texas Austin & Brooke Army Medical Center,
    San Antonio, TX

The Nonlinear Biodynamics Lab at UT Austin and the Military
Performance Lab at the Center for the Intrepid / Brooke Army Medical
Center (CFI/BAMC) in San Antonio, TX anticipate having at least one
funded position available for early Spring 2009 to study balance and
stability control mechanisms in individuals with lower limb
amputation. The position will be for a Post-Doctoral Research
Associate. The specific project will involve applying advanced
virtual reality interventions and computational data analysis
approaches to determine how patients respond to specific challenges
to their dynamic stability (i.e. different perturbations) while
walking. This project will have implications for understanding the
basic neural and mechanical mechanisms that govern the control of
walking and will also have direct clinical applications to developing
advanced VR interventions to help improve walking ability in these patients.

It is anticipated that the majority of the work will be performed at
the state of the art facilities at the Center for the Intrepid at
Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, about one hour's drive
    south of Austin.

A Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely
related field is required. Prior experience with virtual reality
based rehabilitation, computational biomechanics and/or analysis of
biomechanical data (e.g., gait analysis) is strongly desired. Solid
computer programming skills (e.g., Matlab, C++, etc.) are essential.

letter of interest, a detailed CV (with the list of publications),
and three names of colleagues who can be contacted for references to
Jonathan Dingwell . Applications will be
reviewed beginning in mid-October. Please plan to submit full
applications no later than November 1, 2009.
