Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Neuromotor Control

The Movement Science Department at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the area of neuromotor control. Scholars who can complement existing faculty strengths in lifespan and/or rehabilitation issues related to human movement are encouraged to apply. Current research includes motor learning in older adults and in Parkinson’s Disease, developmental neuromotor control in spina bifida, Down syndrome and autism, and sensorimotor coordination and rehabilitation in cerebral palsy and stroke.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Kinesiology/Movement Science or a related field (e.g. Rehabilitation Science, Neuroscience, etc.). At least one year of post-doctoral training is strongly recommended. A productive publication history in high quality, peer-reviewed journals and demonstrated potential to secure competitive, extramural research funding are required. Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the area of motor control is highly desirable. All areas of research related to neuromotor control will be considered. However, candidates with prior research experience involving individuals with neurological conditions affecting motor function are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program in the area of neuromotor control and / or development, contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction through teaching and course development, mentor doctoral students, and contribute to the growth of an internationally recognized program focused on motor function and rehabilitation. Opportunities exist to collaborate with several departments and research centers including but not limited to Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Institute of Gerontology and the Center for Human Growth and Development.
Movement Science is a department within the School of Kinesiology. Kinesiology is one of 19 degree granting academic units on the University of Michigan campus with 25 tenure-line faculty and nearly 850 students. Undergraduate majors include Movement Science, Athletic Training, Sport Management, and Physical Education.
Evaluation of applications will begin November 15, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled. The preferred start date for this position is September, 2010.
